Big Step for Chlorantraniliprole Insecticide Products

2025-11-06

Chlorantraniliprole, an anthranilic diamide insecticide, has helped fruit growers control Lepidopteran species, including navel orangeworm and codling moth, since being registered for use in 2008. The active ingredient, according to Albaugh Product Development Manager Bret Corbett, provides a low use rate and season-long control, with a low toxicity profile for humans. It is safe for beneficial insects, such as honeybees, he adds.

Chlorantraniliprole has become a trusted tool in orchards and vineyards, especially for its role in managing different caterpillar species,” Corbett says. “It is preferred because of its residual activity as well as its crop safety.”

With most patents for chlorantraniliprole compounds having expired in March 2021, Albaugh, on Nov. 14, received EPA end-use registration for three chlorantraniliprole products, two of which pertain to fruit and nut growers.

Eventex provides specialty crop growers with an alternative against key Lepidopteran pests of tree nut, fruits (pome, stone, and tropical), olives, grapes, and citrus. “Eventex differentiates itself through its optimized liquid formulation, which enhances active ingredient uptake and stability, ensuring consistent performance across varying environmental conditions,” Corbett says. “Its compatibility with other tank-mix partners also makes it a flexible option for growers managing complex pest landscapes.”

Specifically, Corbett notes, chlorantraniliprole controls grape berry moth while maintaining the quality of wine grapes by reducing insect damage and secondary infections. In almonds and pistachios it provides protection against navel orangeworm and codling moth, he adds, while in pome fruit it provides control of codling moth.

Exceliprole offers long-lasting residual control of a range of Lepidopteran pests, such as armyworms and cutworms, in a variety of crops, including strawberries, vegetables, potatoes, soybeans, cotton, and corn. “Exceliprole is formulated to address the unique pest challenges of strawberries,” Corbett says. “Its systemic action allows for uniform coverage and longer-lasting control, protecting the fruit from damage throughout critical growth stages.”
